The Post Office: A sign of the times
More than 100 years ago the first postal museum in the world was established in Berlin. The exhibition in the edifice located on the corner of Leipzigerstrasse and Mauerstrasse holds over 6,000 pieces.
After being acquired by Telekom, the building was renovated from 1991 to 1999. The whole lighting concept was redesigned by the architects Henze and Vahjen.

The post office from the past is now presented under dramatic, flicker-free lighting provided by modern luminaires in a bombastic, neo-baroque setting.
In order to fulfil the demands placed upon the lighting, especially elegant luminaire frames were designed. The light sources employ unilaterally mounted HCI-T 70W high pressure discharge lamps with a ceramic burner. Depending on the type of luminaire, two and four POWERTRONIC PTU 70/230-240 systems boasting the most compact dimensions of 136mm x 88mm x 40mm are installed in an aluminium casing which humbly complements the overall luminaire design.
