Peter Senoner's sculptural works speak a strange language that is all their own. There is something inherently fantastical, even mystical about them. The sensitivity of their figurative expression harmonizes in a unique way with the fine materiality of the surface. Senoner's sculptures combine traditional craftsmanship with a futuristic aesthetic, and reveals allusions to works of art or cinema history.

The starting point and leitmotiv of Peter Senoner's artistic concepts is always portraiture. He creates fantastic portraits in traditional media: figures which are drawn, carved life size out of wood, or, recently, cast in bronze. However, Senoner's creations are not likenesses: they belong to the tradition of the visionary portrait, oriented less towards people from the world of experience than representations of typified essences. His beings are born into a world where they have yet to discover themselves. The central figure of the exhibition, "LEM", appears as an enchanted, mythical creature who registers his physical existence with wonder.

In this exhibition at the Galerie aktueller Kunst im OSRAM Haus, Peter Senoner presents a scenario with two protagonists: the cast bronze version of LEM and a vegetative technoid form which writhes its way into the room. These two works are accompanied by drawings and smaller sculptural pieces.

We are pleased to mention that Peter Senoner also figures prominently in the "Skulptur" exhibition of works by eminent artists currently on at the Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna, where several of his pieces can be seen.
